Finding and hiring the best requires dedicated effort (Zhou)
You are in the best position to know what you need in a new team member, so you need to drive the search and process. This might include things like:
- Precisely identifying what you are looking for. Even within a field like “Design” there are a lot of specialties and different skillsets.
- Make a plan for sourcing and screening candidates. Orgs or groups to pull from, keywords and experiences to filter by. Think out of the box: Netflix found their best data people tended to be into music, so they added that as a filter when searching for new candidates.
- Make the interview process great. Prep the candidate well, choose good interviewers, provide good feedback and follow up quickly.
- Show the candidate you want them once you make an offer. Follow up, offer to answer questions, be present.
