Buffalo Bill created an entirely fictional vision of a masculine world which eventually became the accepted truth. This has colored our interpretation of the events of the west ever since.

With the Wild West show gaining in popularity, Cody also strove to increase its respectability. Buffalo Bill’s Wild West was not a “show”—it was, according to Cody, an educational event.
